This PR forwards the following fixes from the dev-v2.12 branch:
It also corrects the target branch passed in the validation test
Next step
A PR from the dev-v2.13 to release-v2.13 branch will be raised once this PR is merged.
Currently, the only difference between those branches is changes in the CI
